Floodwall Session 14: Mansions & Monsters

After crashing in the 6th tier, the party made their way into the mansion they’d landed on. The place had an overgrown rooftop garden, and living inside were some feral Displacer Beasts. However, Vi’s affinity for wildlife (and weird abundance of sausages) meant the party was able to avoid a fight and make their way into the mansion proper.

After searching through the place for signs of the owners, Cranzalar found a note from Mavi, thanking the Heliodyne family for their work on a prototype weapon for the church to use. Along with the note were three invites to an upcoming Masquerade Ball, being hosted by the Royal Czerna.

The party decided they needed to find and destroy this weapon, so set about looking for a secret lab. It was found behind a bookcase, and contained the bodies of the three Heliodynes – Victor, Astrid, and Lacrimosa. It seemed that they’d been completely drained of blood, and then had their throats crushed on top of that.

Then the weapon showed up. It was almost like a warforged, but with weird organic components. The party hid, and found blueprints for the thing – it had been made with an unholy melding of souls and blood magic. It couldn’t control the abilities it had been imbued with, and the Heliodynes had paid the price.

Uzi approached it, and tried to talk it down – naming it ‘Buddy’ in the process. She was able to withstand the force of its aura, and kept all her blood in her veins. But there weren’t many options for dealing with the thing. She, along with Cranzalar and Uzi, attempted to dispel the blood magic aura, but all they were able to do was to dispel the magic that created Buddy in the first place. Its form dissolved, and the souls trapped in were able to move on.

This had a pretty heavy effect on Firuzeh. She vowed to make the Royals pay for their part in this. While Vi and Cranzalar made sure to remove any traces of them being there, she fell asleep in the mansion’s kitchen. Also they found a Glutton’s Fork and a Jug of Infinite Mayo, so… you win some, you lose some, I guess?
